Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. The Distinguished Chairs Program is designed for eminent scholars and professionals with substantial experience and publications in their respective fields. The scholars lecture and conduct research at Italian universities that host Fulbright Distinguished Chairs. For the academic year 2010-2011, Fulbright Distinguished Chairs are located at the following universities: Candidates profiles and grants activity are detailed under individual award descriptions. Scholarships are awarded through an annual competition administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars in collaboration with the Fulbright Commission. Grant Benefits Grant benefits generally include a maintenance allowance, a settling-in allowance and a travel allowance to cover round-trip international travel. Monthly maintenance stipend varies according to the award. Fulbright scholars are covered by Health and Accident Insurance for the whole grant period, provided by United States Department of State. Grant Length Grant duration varies from 3 to 10 months according to the award Entry Visa to Italy The Fulbright scholar will need to obtain a visa for study purposes (visto per studio) for the whole duration of his/her stay in Italy. The Fulbright Commission gives assistance to the grantees in the application for the visa. In case grant period exceeds 3 months, the Fulbright Commission assists grantees in applying for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno). DISTINGUISHED CHAIRS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2010-2011: DISTINGUISHED CHAIR AT THE PARTHENOPE UNIVERSITY OF NAPLES - Award#0025 Grant Category: Distinguished Lecturing/Research Discipline: Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development Specialization(s): Systems ecology (also including marine and terrestrial systems), life cycle assessment, general energy analysis and ecosystem energetics, energy conversions and networks, bioenergetics, similitude in environmental and economic systems, systems modeling and uncertainty, material and energy flows in industrial ecologies, analysis and design of sustainable systems including but not limited to urban systems, or closely related areas. Host Institution: University of Naples Parthenope Desired qualifications of Scholar: Both professionals with previous collaboration with Universities and academics will be considered. Experience with Ph.D. curriculum development and Ph.D. students will be considered preferential qualification.
